Beat poverty, not your wife – Reno Omokri reacts to domestic violence

Reno Omokri, Former presidential aide has reacted to the spate of domestic violence in the country.

Omokri, referring to men, stated on his twitter handle on Wednesday, September 2 that men should gain their wives submission by using financial power.

He stated this to fault the incessant cases of domestic violence reported in the society.

FIFA had last month, August 18, pledged support to join the African Union, World Health Organisation and Confederation of African Football to address the issue of domestic violence across Africa.

President Gianni Infantino was quoted on FIFA website saying, “I am glad that today we can launch this campaign on the important topic of domestic violence, which is significantly exacerbated by COVID-19 lockdown conditions and movement restrictions, together with our partners, the African Union, WHO and CAF.

“It is our duty to leverage the immense popularity of football in Africa to raise awareness on this societal challenge with a very clear message, violence has no place in homes, just as it has no place in football.”

According to FIFA, one of the proposed ways to fight this violence is the initiation of a campaign tagged #SafeHome, which has been supported by a number of African football stars via video awareness messages distributed on social and traditional media.

In his tweet, Omokri said, ”Dear men, Money gives power. Strength gives fear.

”If you want your wife‘s respect, use financial power to empower her, don’t use your fist to disfigure her.

”Make money and she will call you honey! If you must beat, beat poverty, not your wife!’
