The Mindset every Writer must have
Having the right mindset is important to position you as a great, and exceptional writer.
The following are fundamental mindset you must have as a writer:
1. See your writing as an art: See yourself as an artist,
when you do so, the level of attention you give to your writing will differ. Go
beyond being a good writer. Think of a painter or an artist, how they
meticulously draw and blend colours, I'm sure you'll agree with me that they
pay a lot of attention.
You don't use words just because they are good or sound
nice, but because it fits perfectly into your story and what it is you want to
convey. It takes quality time to put up a great writing, you pay more attention
to your use of words, think through every single word, and go through it over
and over again.
This mindset aims at helping you carefully craft words
together, and not just scribble.
2. Your writing is not about you but your readers/audience:
Communication is key; if you cannot clearly say or express what you have in
mind to people through written or spoken words, you'll make no sense to your
audience. If you have a message you want to convey, it should be in a manner
that would clearly be understood by people.
They shouldn't struggle to read or understand your point.
Some people write to showoff their intelligence, and how sophisticated their
English is with the use of ambiguous words. You shouldn't write with the aim of
impressing, but communicating. Take your readers on a journey and unfold your
message in the best way possible.
This mindset makes you stand out, from other writers.

3. Be real: Be simple and plain with your words, don't beat
around the bush or drag people's emotions unnecessarily with words for the need
to impress. Be yourself; trying to be like, or copy other writers and their
style of writing only makes you a shadow of them.
It is necessary to connect, learn, and aspire to be great
with your art, but the only way to do that is to keep writing.
Albert Hubbard, one of the most prolific writers in American
history was once asked the key to successful writing. He replied, “The only way
to learn to write is to write and write and write and write, and write and
write and write.” And I totally agree, this also helps you find your unique writing
style or niche as I explained last week.
The only way to be exceptional at what you do is to keep
doing it over and over again.
4. Know your audience: This is vital, it helps you tailor
your writing to fit the people you're talking to, and also helps you figure out
the best approach to use.
The approach or writing pattern I'll use in writing a speech
for the Governor, will be entirely different from that of a comic book.
Understanding your audience is key to effective
communication.
