Niche hunting shouldn’t be top priority for writers, says Dokubo as she unravels basic tips for beginners

For newbie writers who just can’t wait to start putting their thoughts into writing, a seasoned writer and author, Imani Dokubo has advised that niche hunting shouldn’t be  a top priority for beginners.

Speaking  with Nneka Nwogwugwu on Thursday, the writer who also doubles as a content developer and Creative Assistant at the BRAG Media Company explained other necessary basic skills for newbie writers.

Giving more insights on an article she captioned, ‘’YOUR NICHE WILL FIND YOU’’ Dokubo shared her personal experience on her writing journey.

The article reads; ‘’If you are a Newbie writer or someone considering writing as a necessary skill to add to your skillset, then I'm sure you've heard a lot about Niches.

‘’Let me share a bit of my experience with you.

‘’I had always been passionate about writing, just didn't know what aspect of writing to focus on. Hence the search, I went online and typed in Google space bar. "How to find my niche as a writer"

‘’A lot of articles and blog posts popped up, and I gradually went through every one of them.

‘’Some of the suggestions were:

- Make a list of topics you're good at.

- What do you have a lot of experience doing?

- What do you enjoy teaching people about?

- ‎ Examine a lot of profitable niches for writers.

‘’I spent quality time reading blog post after blog post, devouring article after article until my head was spinning with information overload and indecision.

‘’I am not saying any of the above is wrong or niching down as a writer is wrong, no.

‘’But as a newbie or someone who just decided to go into writing full time, don't wear yourself out with choosing a niche yet.

‘Write, write, write.

‘Write on anything you're passionate about, write on anything that draws your attention, write on any idea that pops to your head while in a cab or watching a movie, pen down your thoughts. Write everyday.

‘’You know what this does?

‘’It helps you find your voice. Overtime you'll see yourself writing more about a particular subject/topic. It comes to you naturally with time.  You also get to find your unique writing style.

‘’Are you searching for a niche?

‘’Do you crave to be a badass on a specific writing genre?

‘’Be consistent with writing and your niche will eventually find you.’’

  2. My Question;
Is it ever possible for a Writer not to Plagiarise at least at a minimum 15% probability especially when he/she doesn't have a niche?
If so, then what advice would you give such writers regards distinctive wordings?

  3. It is very possible. We all consume knowledge to some extent before emerging experts at anything, if an information has been useful to you and you would love to share with others, referencing the original author/writer shouldn't be a difficult task. You can do that and still share your thoughts extensively on the subject matter, not having a niche doesn't limit you.

As I stated earlier in the article, write, write, and write everyday on the things you are passionate about, the things that interest you, your ideas, opinion etc. Consistency is the key to achieve distinctive wording. The more you write, the more you'll discover how best you express yourself in writing, and what genre you love exploring the more. To add to that, Read. Read as much as you can on different genres, books you love, and books that teach the art of writing. Reading helps expand your vocabulary, exposes you to different writing styles, and information to aid your writing prowess. I hope this helps...
