Week-in-Review: The relationship between Magu and IPOB
It is no more news that the events that surrounded Nigeria’s
mediasphere last week was the probe of former Acting chairman of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
For one week, Magu has been detained. He was accosted on the road in Abuja and dragged to appear before Justice Isa Ayo Salami Presidential Investigation Panel, which is probing allegations leveled against him by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami.
President Buhari approved his suspension after Magu appeared
before an investigative panel.
The EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, was asked to
take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion
of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards, Umar
Jibrilu Gwandu, Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations in the Office
of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said in a
statement on Friday.
This attracted a lot of reactions from Nigerians,
international community and recognized groups.
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Nnamdi Kanu published its reaction in a Statement on Sunday.

IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma
Powerful, in a statement said its leader, Kanu, who has been saying that the
present administration cannot salvage Nigeria, has been vindicated with the
ongoing drama over arrest and suspension of the Acting Chairman of Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
The group alleged that a particular section of the country
sees Nigeria as a permanent oil field and private estate assigned to them by
the British government in 1960.
The statement reads in part: “Following the ongoing
suspension of the former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, we, the global family of the Indigenous People
of Biafra, IPOB, wish to state categorically to all Nigerians that this country
cannot be redeemed by the people who see the Nigerian State as their permanent
oil field and private estate assigned to them by the British government in
1960.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been saying on numerous occasions,
especially during his Radio Biafra broadcasts, that those people cannot salvage
Nigeria unless all Nigerians join hands to salvage the country. “If Nigerians
continue to allow only the North control the country, they must be prepared to
welcome the ‘sunami’ that has been designed to befall Nigeria.
“Our leader, Mazi
Nnamdi Kanu has been vindicated by the ongoing drama over arrest, detention and
suspension of Magu.
“He has said it several times that this government with its
cabal cannot salvage Nigeria. “We all are aware of how the commission formed by
the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, from the evidence on the ground
appears to be run by only people from the North as if it is their private
estate and no other tribe can head it.”
Another top story of last week was the postponement of WAEC
examination.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said final
year secondary school students in Nigeria won’t participate in the forthcoming
West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.
Adamu also stated that resumption of schools has not been announced
yet.
Also on the news last week was the killing of 92 Boko
Haram/ISWAP terrorists and 104 bandits.
According to Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, the co-ordinator of the
Defence Media Operations, the terrorists were eliminated between the period of
July 2 nad July 9.
Enenche disclosed that in the North-East, both the land and
air components of operation Lafiya Dole had continued to unleash massive
onslaught against the terrorists from all fonts and recorded successes.
